Appointment costs and medicare rebates

The cost of your appointment depends on several factors:

  • Medicate Rebates

    If you have a valid Medicare card, you may be eligible for a rebate for your appointment.
  • Annual Rebate Limit

    Medicare provides the maximum rebate for a new a psychiatrist appointment once a year, a follow up appointment within 12 months will receive a lower rebate. Medicare
  • Referral Requirements

    To receive a rebate, a current referral for an assessment and treatment plan is required.
  • Cancellation Policy

    Cancellations within 2 days incur a $300 fee, which will be added to your next booking.
  • GP vs. Specialist Referrals

    Medicare rebates are generally higher when your referral comes from a GP, compared to a specialist (for example, a fertility specialist).

    A GP referral is valid for 12 months, whilst a specialist referral is only valid for 3 months.
  • Location

    Your suburb and postcode determine if you’re eligible for the Rural Rebate. You can check your address on the Resource Locator. If the Modified Monash Model classification is not MM1, you’re considered rural.
